Gwendetta Jones

Prior to Ashaki International, Gwendetta previously owned two salons in North Carolina, one of which was an exclusive natural hair care salon in North Raleigh during a time when natural hair was not as popular as it is today. Expanding in the hair care industry for 29 years, Gwendetta’s expertise is evident in her evolution from licensed hair stylist and natural hair care specialist to salon owner and continuing education provider for NC cosmetologists. 

Gwendetta’s greatest accomplishment has been defeating breast cancer, which became the driving force behind the innovation of Shaki by Nature Hair and Skin Detox Products. With the diagnosis of the cancer that invaded Gwendetta’s body as environmentally influenced, while studying in graduate school, she began to conduct research on the effects of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) to discover that most preservatives and fragrances in black hair care products were caustic and a contributor to the alarmingly high number of cancer diagnoses within the African American community. 

Shaki by Nature was created by Gwendetta out of love for moisturizing, protecting, and strengthening African American hair to promote growth and detoxing skin to assist with eradicating skin disorders like eczema and different forms of dermatitis. Gwendetta holds a M.Ed. from Grand Canyon University and a BA from Thomas Edison State College.
